Government has, through the Trade and Industry Ministry, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Rwanda to deepen bilateral trade relations between the two nations.
Sector Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng, speaking at the ceremony, expressed optimism that the agreement will develop into a strong and mutually beneficial economic relationship between the two parties.
He noted the significant role that Rwanda has played in the formulation of some of Africa’s business-oriented policies, including the establishment of the AfCFTA.“The history of the single African market cannot be written without giving credit to the peoples and governments of both Ghana and Rwanda for the roles that they played towards its establishment,” he shares.
Mr. Kyeremanteng says the outlook for Ghana-Rwanda trade relations remains positive with the signing of the MoU.“We envisage that through this partnership, Ghana can become an entry point for Rwandan investments within the West African sub-region whilst facilitating Ghana’s strategic entry to the Central and Eastern Africa markets,” he adds.
Rwanda’s Trade Minister, Beata Habyarimana, on her part, highlights the long-standing relations between the two states.“Accra is a truly Pan-African city and the metropolitan hub for policies, business and tourism and the signing of this MoU will enhance our economic cooperation,” she indicates. She was equally optimistic about the bright future for economic relations between Ghana and Rwanda.
She says: “This signing of this partnership is among practical steps to allow our citizens to realise the gains of the free trade area. The presidents of the two nations have provided great direction on how to achieve this intra-African cooperation.”
